Student Experiences

Check out some of our past student experiences:

Internship in Scotland
Museum and Gallery Studies

Carlie enjoyed an amazing educational opportunity in Scotland’s Dumfries and Galloway region. Carlie interned over the summer in the collections department of the Dumfries Museum and Camera Obscura. Carlie believes working internationally provided her with an opportunity she may never get again – to experience another country and culture both within the museum environment and outside of it.

Semester in France
Hospitality – Hotel & Resort Operations Management

I had the fantastic opportunity to study abroad in Strasbourg, France during my second year of the Hospitality and Tourism program at Georgian. We got to live and learn in a 200-year old chateau, do an internship in local restaurants and go on field trips to Germany. I spent my weekends traveling to other countries like Switzerland, Italy, London. It was such an incredible and life-changing experience and I would encourage everyone to go abroad!

Studied in Ireland
General Business

Studying abroad opens up so many opportunities and allows you to learn more about yourself and the world. I learned more about who I am, who I want to be and what I want to do in my life. International experience is also very important and very beneficial when it comes to future job searches. Today, having international experience is a big deal for employers as it speaks not only to your personality but to your life experience as well.

Co-op in East Asia
Tourism – Marketing and Product Development

The purpose of my co-op was to implement the Social Innovation and Cultural Exchange project for Georgian College. I visited 19 cities in China, Vietnam, and Thailand. I gained a lot of professional skills that have helped me start my career. I gained a greater understanding of the world, and a massive appreciation of my life and how blessed I am. I learned how to work with people from around the world. I gained so many personal experiences and stories that helped me grow and drastically shifted my perspective.

For our summer co-op, we travelled to China for six weeks on behalf of the #GoAbroadSquad and the Segal International Centre. This project was created to enhance partnerships with Georgian College and create potential job opportunities for alumni. Additionally, this co-op allows students to share their student experiences and engage with international students and local communities.

Co-op in Israel
Environmental Technician

My duties included taking part in the commissioning and operation of a new water treatment plant, and to measure the impact this facility will have on the  environment resulting from the combustion of the gas turbine to comply with the environmental regulations set out by the ministry of environmental protection. Working abroad is now my passion as it has given me incredible experiences meeting people from around the world and exploring new cultures.

Co-op in Portugal
Culinary Management

Herc has family roots in Portugal, so he decided to do a Summer 2019 co-op there and was hired on at Praya Restaurante on the coast.  Not only does this provide him with an amazing opportunity to build his resume and experience in international cuisine, but also gives him the chance to travel, connect with family and improve his Portuguese language skills.

Co-op in Cleveland, USA
Honours Bachelor of Interior Design

Allison completed a co-op work term at Vocon, a forward thinking design company with locations in the U.S.  She worked out of the Cleveland office in a paid position where she was involved in projects, design work, field work and presentations.  This position came to be through Allison’s own personal networking and relationship building from a summer job that she had previously.

Co-op in Thailand
Honours Bachelor of Interior Design

There was something about Thailand that attracted Madison, Recreation & Leisure Services Diploma student. Madi applied through RMC Consultants who assisted in securing her paid co-op as a Sports & Recreation Trainee at Centara Grand West Sands Resort & Villas in Phuket, Thailand. Here Madi was responsible for programming activities in the Kids Club and other recreation activities at this Five Star Resort. RMC also assisted with the visa process, airport transfers, accommodations and orientation. “That co-op definitely made a huge impact. I still can’t believe I did it. I’m glad I did it. There was ups and downs, but I learned a lot, experienced a lot, and still have friends I talk to that I worked with. Now when I go to interviews, one of the first questions I get is about that experience and it has helped with getting jobs.”
